Michael Stewart has blasted Rangers players for coming out at the start of 'every season' and claiming they have 'the best team in the league', which he thinks is just 'motivating' Celtic.
Rangers winger Ojo recently claimed that Steven Gerrard's side are 'the best team' in Scotland [Daily Express], as Stewart claimed that his manager will be telling him to 'just be quiet'.
Neil Lennon's Celtic are currently sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table, as they bid to win their ninth league title in a row this season.
Speaking to Sportsround (30/09/2019), Stewart didn't hold back in his criticism of Ojo following his recent comments.
“I get the impression that Steven Gerrard would probably wish that Sheyi Ojo would not comment on those sorts of things because a lot of what he says is valid and fair," Stewart told Sportsround. "When he's talking about they are in a good run of form and playing well. All of that sort of stuff.
“But then to double down and reiterate the point about Rangers being the best team in the league, all that will be doing is motivating Celtic even more so. That result against Celtic, which was only a few weeks ago, it sort of undermines the point Ojo is trying to make that Rangers are the best team in Scotland.
“Every season, without fail, there's a Rangers player that comes out and says 'we are the best team in the league'. Early on in the season, every season. Steven Gerrard might be standing there going, 'just be quiet',”
Since Gerrard's arrival last summer, Rangers have improved a lot, as they will feel that this is their best chance of winning the title.
They thrashed Aberdeen over the weekend, whilst their Old Firm rivals had to settle for a 1-1 draw against struggling Hibernian.
It all meant that the gap at the top of the Premiership table was cut to one-point, with Celtic and Rangers in European action on Thursday night before they return to league action once again at the weekend.
