Liverpool fans are very glad the club did not splash out on Nicolas Pepe.

Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe in the summer – although reports were very conflicting.

French newspaper L’Equipe claimed Liverpool submitted an offer for the Ivory Coast international before he chose Arsenal.

The Mail claimed Liverpool held no interest, however.

So far, Pepe has given Liverpool absolutely no reason to feel like they missed out.

Against Manchester United in a draw for Arsenal at Old Trafford, Pepe had a game on a big stage to prove a point.

His performance against Liverpool had been hammered previously. Last night only led to more of the same.

He came into the match having scored his first goal a week earlier, from the penalty spot.

It did not help him. Arsenal substituted him in the second half, while leaving young winger Bukaro Saka on. It was the right decision, he was better.

Pepe had two shots in the first half, and in the second he looked more of a liability than an asset, giving the ball away and breaking down his own side’s counter attacks.

Liverpool supporters were left feeling very satisfied that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp did not push for Pepe. Especially with their fantastic start to the season.
