Newcastle United released Callum Roberts in June and his form at Blyth Spartans has been remarkable.

Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to move forward.
And, if eyebrows were raised when Newcastle United youngster Callum Roberts dropped into non-league with a shock move to Blyth Spartans, it seems the highly-rated forward could be hurtling back up the football pyramid almost immediately with a risky move reaping considerable rewards.
After 14 years in Newcastle’s reserves, an England U20 international who was born and raised down the road in South Shields saw his dream come to an end. The Magpies decided against offering him a new contract and he was released in June.
Following a brief spell at local rivals Middlesbrough (Hartlepool Mail), Roberts was on his way to Croft Park to play under former Newcastle midfielder Lee Clark at National League North outfit Blyth. But he won’t be wearing the green and white stripes for much longer.
Roberts has looked a cut above in the sixth-tier – understandably so – with seven goals in eight games to his name. There were even two hat-tricks in the space of seven days.

According to the Yorkshire Post, Roberts could now be on his way to the Football League with promotion chasing Rotherham United offering the in-form forward a trial.
Former Newcastle youngsters Marcus Maddison and Ivan Toney have been in remarkable form in League One this season and it looks like they could be joined by Roberts as he continues to get his career back on track.
