While Will Grigg would struggle to hit a barn door with a double bass these days, a midfielder Sunderland loaned out over the summer scored a stunner with each foot during a match-winning display on Saturday.
Ethan Robson netted a brilliant individual effort to seal a 1-0 win for Grimsby Town against Macclesfield Town a week ago but he went one better away at Exeter City.
First there was a stunning first-time effort from the edge of the box, a left-footed rocket into the top corner after a well worked corner routine. The second was class personified - a shimmy, a swerve and an ingenious right-footed clip into the roof of the net.
Robson’s brilliant double meant Grimsby had beaten the League Two leaders on their own soil. No wonder manager Michael was left feeling Jolley.
And the 22-year-old’s heroic performance at St James’ Park (no, not that one) didn’t go unnoticed back on Wearside either. With Grigg and Charlie Wyke struggling in front of goal, Jack Ross’ side continue to lack any sort of cutting edge through the middle of the pitch but perhaps Robson is exactly what they’re missing.
Did anyone say 're-call clause'?
Really hope Ethan Robson isn’t one of those players we look back on in 5 years wondering why we released him... just like Egan at Sheffield U #safc— Jason (@Jasonbrahhhh) September 28, 2019
Least we're not having to rely on our strikers to get our goals lately, might have to bring Robson back in January though to replace them! Scoring 3 in his last two games #SAFC— Col (@ColArmstrong) September 28, 2019
@Ethan_robson8 he’s just a cracking player. Can’t understand how he’s not holding down a place at #safc. I’m hoping to see him back in red and white. First time I saw him I rated him. 2 good feet and a cracking tackler.— christinesmith (@cs10mackem) September 28, 2019
