Ex-Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce saw his Newcastle United side suffer a humiliating defeat to Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa supporters on Twitter have hit back at Leicester City fans after they were singing about the newly-promoted side during their 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

As 10-man Newcastle began to fold during the game, sections of the home support could be heard chanting to the away fans, ‘you’re going down with the Villa’.

Leicester ended up humiliating their opponents on the day, with striker Jamie Vardy netting a brace and Ricardo Pereira, a Paul Dummett own goal and Wilfred Ndidi also adding their names to the scoresheet.

Despite Villa not playing in the game and yet to play Brendan Rodgers side for a couple of months, Leicester fans felt the need to sing about the West Midlands outfit.

Whilst the Foxes are flying high in the Premier League, both Villa and Newcastle will be disappointed with their start to the campaign because they are both sitting in the relegation zone, at this moment in time.

Dean Smith’s side will welcome the Foxes to Villa Park in December in what could possibly be a highly-charged game between the two clubs.

Rodgers side will no doubt still be chasing those European spots when they meet, with Villa hoping they can cement their status in England’s top-flight by pushing up the table in these coming months.

Whilst both Villa and Leicester are Midlands-based teams, there isn’t really a rivalry between the duo, with Villa’s main rivalry with near neighbours Birmingham City.
