Steven Gerrard allowed the lifelong Rangers fan to leave Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Ryan Hardie was back at Ibrox this weekend just two months after leaving Rangers on a permanent basis.

The Rangers academy product had a rare Saturday afternoon off after his new club, Blackpool, played on Friday instead.

He was an unused substitute in that game – a 2-1 win against Lincoln City in which another former Rangers kid Jordan Thompson caught the eye – but rushed back to Glasgow in time for the Gers’ 5-0 win against Aberdeen, posting the following via his Instagram story.

A goal each from Rangers forwards Greg Stewart, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe – in addition to a couple of James Tavernier penalties – served Hardie with a stark reminder of why he, along with Andrew Dallas and Zak Rudden, had to get out of Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Dallas also left on full-time deal, joining Cambridge United, while Rudden is on loan at Plymouth Argyle until January.

Morelos and Defoe have been especially prolific for Rangers this season, scoring 11 Premiership goals between them now.
