The Liverpool striker helped his side to all three points today.
Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that he was delighted with Divock Origi’s cameo appearance today, noting that he had a ‘proper impact’.
The Reds moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought win at Sheffield United.
Gini Wijnaldum was the hero as his 71st-minute winner helped Liverpool to a narrow 1-0 victory, though Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s error played a role in the goal.
Origi, who came on for captain Jordan Henderson midway through the second half, also played a big role, providing the cross which led to Wijnaldum’s volley.
It was the Belgian striker’s first appearance in two weeks due to injury and Klopp was very pleased with the cameo.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “Div made a proper impact when he came on, it was really helpful that we could pass the ball there [for] the one-on-one situations.
“I think he crossed the ball before the goal as well. So, that was the reason.”
It isn’t impossible that Liverpool will maintain their eight-point lead going into next week.
Manchester City have to beat Everton at Goodison Park tonight to restore the five-point deficit, though Pep Guardiola’s side did score eight against Watford last week.
