Adam Forshaw is fit for Leeds United’s game today – and Noel Whelan claims that he’ll start.
Noel Whelan has tipped Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa to axe Jamie Shackleton this afternoon.
The Whites visit in-form Charlton Athletic and the United manager has something of a dilemma in midfield.
Shackleton, a Leeds academy product, has been superb in midfield in recent weeks due to Adam Forshaw’s absence.
But the Liverpudlian is fit again and Whelan expects Bielsa to bring him back into the first XI immediately, at the expense of the 19-year-old.
He told West Yorkshire Sport Daily on Friday night: “I’m thinking Forshaw. I am. Shackleton’s done absolutely nothing wrong. I think he’s been fantastic over the two games, but I just think Marcelo Bielsa, away from home, will go back to that experienced head in the midfield area.”
Whelan might well be right, but Leeds fans may feel a tad upset if Shackleton is sacrificed.
The Elland Road faithful love seeing one of their own get chances in the senior set-up and given how well the young lad has performed, it might be a tad harsh if he is dumped for Forshaw.
That being said, it must be noted that the former Middlesbrough midfielder was class prior to getting injured and although some supporters could disagree with Bielsa if Shackleton drops out, many more will understand his rationale.
