Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier wore the armband for Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Tuesday evening.

According to the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier was spotted saying ‘that was embarrassing’ as he walked off the pitch following defeat to Colchester United.

Dier wore Tottenham’s captain’s armband on Tuesday evening, as Spurs suffered one of their most humiliating results in recent memory.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dumped out of the League Cup by Colchester on penalties, as they struggled to break down their lower league opponents.

And Dier was clearly not happy at full-time, as he trudged off.

With Colchester fans invading the pitch, Dier is said to have mouthed about how embarrassing the defeat was for Tottenham.

The £50 million man’s (TalkSPORT) words were certainly accurate too, as Spurs’s start to the season went from bad to worse.

There are now serious questions marks over which direction Tottenham are heading in, with their form throughout 2019 alarmingly poor.

Spurs are next in action against Southampton, when the pressure is on them to bounce back from defeat and put things right.
