Sunderland unveil new signing Laurens De Bock at The Academy of Light on September 02, 2019 in Sunderland, England.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter following their side's 1-0 win away at Sheffield United in the League Cup to praise Leeds United loanee Laurens de Bock as the Elland Road-owned player put in an impressive shift on his senior debut for the Black Cats.

The full-back left Elland Road on transfer deadline day this summer to link up with Sunderland on loan, having only made only seven appearances for the Whites since joining in January 2018 from Club Brugge, for whom he played more than 100 times and featured in Europe (BBC Sport).

De Bock, plus fellow deadline day new arrival Joel Lynch, made their first Black Cats appearances last week when they turned out the Under-23s against Middlesbrough, the Whites man earning positive feedback by the Sunderland Echo ("his quality was clear").

Both were drafted in for the trip to Bramall Lane and De Bock did well, growing into the game, defending well, contributing a 40-yard cross field ball and generally looking the part in the Sunderland squad and against Premier League opposition.

Here is what some Stadium of Light fans made of the 26-year-old's performance:
