The Whites full-back is on loan with the Black Cats from Elland Road and impressed for the Stadium of Light side in last night’s League Cup win.
A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter following their side’s 1-0 win away at Sheffield United in the League Cup to praise Leeds United loanee Laurens de Bock as the Elland Road-owned player put in an impressive shift on his senior debut for the Black Cats.
The full-back left Elland Road on transfer deadline day this summer to link up with Sunderland on loan, having only made only seven appearances for the Whites since joining in January 2018 from Club Brugge, for whom he played more than 100 times and featured in Europe (BBC Sport).
De Bock, plus fellow deadline day new arrival Joel Lynch, made their first Black Cats appearances last week when they turned out the Under-23s against Middlesbrough, the Whites man earning positive feedback by the Sunderland Echo (“his quality was clear”).
Both were drafted in for the trip to Bramall Lane and De Bock did well, growing into the game, defending well, contributing a 40-yard cross field ball and generally looking the part in the Sunderland squad and against Premier League opposition.
Here is what some Stadium of Light fans made of the 26-year-old’s performance:
Sounds like de bock is having a cracking game so far like……. #safc— Jamie Wells (@wellsofthejammy) 25 September 2019
Maguire has been absolutely everywhere tonight – he just slid in to win possession in his own half. Have also been impressed with de Bock so far. #SAFC 0-1— Scott Wilson (@Scottwilsonecho) 25 September 2019
That’s brilliant defending from De Bock, tracked his runner very well didn’t dive in. He’s had a good night the Belgian #Safc— Josh Bunting (@Buntingfootball) 25 September 2019
Wow. Buzzing to witness that. Very good defensive performance and we deservedly progress. Dealt with everything they through at us. Lynch was excellent and thought De Bock was solid. Kept the ball well and dictated the game at our pace. A good all round performance. #safc https://t.co/ctfKpda6dM— PeterJWhalen (@PeterJWhalen7) 25 September 2019
Lynch, De Bock, Power And Even Lee Burge Making Strong Impressions That They Should Start In The League Mind… #SAFC— Billy™ (@BILLYxHOPE) 25 September 2019
Hopefully we can kick on in the league now. If Lynch and De Bock can keep up that level of performance (once fully fit) I want them both starting. Onto Saturday ⚽️⚪ #safc— PeterJWhalen (@PeterJWhalen7) 25 September 2019
