Tottenham Hotspur have crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round after a shock penatly shoot-out defeat at the hands of Colchester United.

Spurs were beaten away from home yet again on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at Leicester City, but a trip to League Two side Colchester was seen as a way to move past those away day blues.

However, Spurs fell flat on their travels once again, with a 'weakened' side failing to really break down their fourth-tier opponents, with the game remarkably ending in a 0-0 draw.

Spurs were then at the mercy of a penalty shoot-out, and as Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura both failed from the spot, Tom Lapslie stepped up to send Colchester through.

The result adds to Mauricio Pochettino's woes, with recent away struggles at Arsenal, Olympiacos, Leicester City and now Colchester leaving fans incredibly unhappy.

That Spurs weren't even good enough to beat Colchester is of major concern, and a number of players have been slammed on Twitter for their performances last night.

One of those is playmaker Dele Alli, who was given a start in order to try and build up his fitness and confidence, but he missed a great first-half opening with a tame finish.

Fans have been slating the £100,000-a-week ace (Spotrac) by claiming he has completely lost his way, and should be back at MK Dons having shown that he was nothing more than a flash in the pan.

Others think Alli is 'finished' at Spurs, with fans losing patience with him after another disappointing performance, which was branded 'atrocious'.
