Newcastle fans think Fabian Schar's brutal comments are absolutely spot on

Fabian Schar was far from impressed as Newcastle United were held to a Premier League draw at home to Brighton and Hove Albion at St James' Park.

Fabian Schar doesn’t deserve this.

While Newcastle United continue to flounder under Steve Bruce, sleepwalking into yet another relegation battle while playing with very little substance and even less style, a Swiss international centre-back is looking around and wondering what on earth is going on. He's certainly not the only one.

Schar was fabulous once again during Saturday’s stalemate with Brighton and Hove Albion and, without his dramatic goal-line clearance to deny Aaron Connolly a first Premier League goal, The Magpies would be in the relegation zone right now.

And, speaking with the most timid of performances still fresh in his mind, Schar has come out and said in no uncertain terms what every Newcastle fan was thinking at a noticeably sparse St James’ Park.

"We played a s*** game - what can I say? We were lucky to get a point. We played a bad game, that's it,” the former Deportivo La Coruna stopper told The Chronicle.

"We move on to the next game but we have to improve on this."

In a world of media-trained robots spewing out the same old spiel on a weekly basis, Schar’s brutal honesty can only be applauded. If he wasn’t popular enough already, the 27-year-old’s clear passion for this creaking old club is putting him in cult hero territory.

Unfortunately, as long as Mike Ashley continues to pull the strings from above, it seems only a matter of time before Newcastle cash in on their star defender.
