The West Bromwich Albion coach is reportedly in talks with one of Oxford United and Portsmouth’s league rivals.

Some Oxford United and Portsmouth fans are urging their sides to reappoint Michael Appleton before the West Bromwich Albion coach heads to Lincoln City.

Appleton proved popular during spells as Oxford United and Portsmouth manager and is in talks to take charge of the pair’s League One rivals, Lincoln, according to The Daily Mail.

It follows the departure of brothers Danny and Nicky Cowley – who are said to have turned down West Brom earlier this year – to Huddersfield Town.

And Appleton’s apparent availability – just five months after the former West Brom player and coach returned to The Hawthorns and six weeks since he was handed the job as Under-23s boss – has got the following Oxford United and Portsmouth fans up in arms on Twitter…

Honestly can’t think of a single manager better placed to move Lincoln forward than Appleton. I only wish we were in their position. Oh well, back to the scouse *****house on Saturday #oufc #imps

There is no suggestion as yet that Appleton will leave West Brom.

Oxford United and Portsmouth sit 17th and 18th, respectively, with Lincoln City eighth in their first season back in the third tier.
