West Ham United are due to take on Manchester United on Sunday.

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed on the club’s official website that Aaron Cresswell will start for his side on Sunday.

Arthur Masuaku was harshly sent off for West Ham in their last match against Aston Villa, which means he is suspended for his side’s match against Manchester United.

Masuaku’s absence is a blow to West Ham, as his attacking instincts down the left-hand side had been impressive in recent weeks.

But Pellegrini insists that he has faith in Cresswell, who will get an opportunity to prove his worth at the weekend.

“Of course Aaron Cresswell,” Pellegrini said when asked who will come in for Masuaku. “He started the season and played last season with me. He played 50 per cent of the games. For a manager, the best performances come from players when they have competition behind them.

“Aaron wasn’t playing because Arthur was playing well but now he has the chance to show his ability.”

Cresswell’s stock has fallen massively at West Ham in recent seasons, with the left-back often criticised by supporters.

The former Ipswich man will, therefore, have much to prove if he is given the nod to start against United.

West Ham have made a positive start to the season so far, and if they can pick up the three points in two days’ time then they will really announce their credentials to compete for a top six spot this season.
