Newcastle United centre back Florian Lejeune is closing in on a return to first team action.

Lejeune has not featured at all this season because he has been sidelined with a knee injury.

The Frenchman sent a tweet last night showing he was getting nearer, and expressed his excitement at linking up with compatriot Allan Saint Maximin.

Newcastle signed Lejeune last summer for £8.7 million from Spanish side Eibar.

He has been an impressive player for the club when he has played, but he has had terrible luck with injuries.

He was injured on his Premier League debut by a foul from Tottenham's Harry Kane, which caused him to miss several weeks of action at the start of last season.

Then a knee injury in April put him back on the sidelines and he has been working to recover ever since.

It appears it might not be too much longer.
