Dele Alli endured a difficult night in his first start for Tottenham Hotspur this season, as Mauricio Pochettino's side let a two-goal lead slip against Olympiakos in the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have slammed the performance of Dele Alli after his side recorded a 2-2 draw against Olympiakos in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old was starting his first game of the season, and even though his team burst into a two-goal lead inside the first half an hour, that was gone by the hour mark.

Alli was replaced in the 73rd minute, with Son Heung-Min, who netted a brace against Crystal Palace at the weekend, coming into the fold.

Spurs looked pretty strong in the first half-hour, but after the break, they well and truly tailed off as their opponents deserved to come back into the game.

The lacklustre performance from the team during the second period perhaps mirrored the display Alli put in, who was criticised for his laziness in the middle of the park.

It could be argued that Alli, who earns 100k-a-week at the North London club [Spotrac], is only making his first start, and as a result, he needs more minutes under his belt to get warmed up.

Well, he will have ample opportunity to do just that in these coming weeks, with Spurs in Premier League, EFL Cup and Champions League action before the next international break hits during the middle of next month.

Alli will be hoping he gets a start once again when Spurs travel to the Midlands to take on Brendan Rodgers Leicester City on Saturday, who are hoping to push for the European places this season.
