Celtic are currently in France where they are set to go head-to-head with Rennes in the Europa League.

Celtic supporters on Twitter have hit out at Charlie Nicholas after he claimed that his former club are ‘scared’ when they travel away in Europe.

Neil Lennon’s side are currently in France where they will be preparing for their opening Europa League group game against Rennes on Thursday night.

Nicholas has backed the French club to beat Celtic 2-1, as the Scotsman believes that the Premiership champions ‘will not threaten’ the opposition, as quoted by Sky Sports.

His comments have not gone down well with the Parkhead faithful, with some stating that he is contradicting himself with his comments.

Whilst Nicholas claims that Celtic ‘will not threaten’ on the night, he is also backing them to score against the second-placed Ligue 1 outfit.

The Bhoys have been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks and they will no doubt back themselves to pick up all three points.

Celtic’s defence has stood out in recent weeks, and if they are to leave France with points in the bag then their backline will need to be at their best once again.

Either way, they will be in for a tough contest because their opponents are currently sitting second in France’s top-tier, and last month they beat Paris Saint-Germain on home soil.

Rennes will be looking to replicate that performance they produced against PSG on Thursday night, and if they do then supporters could be in for an entertaining affair.

Here is a selection of Celtic fans reacting to Nicholas’ recent comments:
