Ex Aston Villa goalkeeper shipped four goals.

Pierluigi Gollini defied the low bar he set at Aston Villa to help lead Atalanta into the Champions League last season.

Gollini is Atalanta’s clear first choice, having rebuilt his career after a disappointing stint at Villa in the Championship in 2016.

He was quickly loaned out to Atalanta, before signing permanently and helping them finish fourth in Serie A last season.

Last night he made his first ever Champions League appearance, against Dinamo Zagreb.

It didn’t go according to plan.

The Croatian side surpassed all expectations, beating Atalanta at home 4-0.

Gollini could do little about the goals, with his side defending poorly.

Still, it was not the best start for the former Manchester United trainee.

It gets worse, as Gollini still has two matches against Manchester City still to come.

That might make his time at Aston Villa seem like a cakewalk by comparison.
