Tanguy Ndombele proved his worth in the Champions League with Lyon last season and now he will be hoping to replicate that form when he makes his European debut with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Hugo Lloris has raved about his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Tanguy Ndombele and the 'massive potential' he has in his locker ahead of his potential Champions League debut for Spurs

The 22-year-old shone in this competition with his previous club Lyon last season and Lloris backed him to do the same once again, as he cited his 'skills' from his opening matches as markers about what he can do.

Mauricio Pochettino's side will take on Greek side Olympiacos on Wednesday evening, with Spurs hoping to start their Champions League campaign in a strong manner.

Ahead of that encounter in Greece, Lloris shared his thoughts on Ndombele as he praised the qualities his fellow Frenchman has in his locker.

"I think you have to give him time to adapt to the new philosophy and new football approach," Lloris told Football London. "But one thing is sure, he has massive potential - you only have had to watch his skills in his two games to realise that - and he is ready to help the team.

"I have no doubt he will show his skills and quality in this Champions League campaign. You maybe need more time to adapt to the Premier League, mainly because of the intensity but in the Champions League, he has the experience he made with Lyon.

"He had some great games in this competition with them. Every competition is different but we have the ambition to win every competition we are involved in."

Last season, Spurs reached the Champions League final with a pretty thin squad compared to others, and at times, with key players missing.

But this time around, they are much stronger, especially when it comes to squad depth, as it remains to be seen what impact some of the new boys will have.

Someone like Nodombele might not need to get used to the competition, but winger Ryan Sessegnon, has never played at this level before and he will be hoping to showcase his talent when he returns from injury.
