Premier League duo Sheffield United and Brighton and Hove Albion reportedly wanted to sign Norway star Berge from KRC Genk.

Sander Berge has admitted that he could have signed for Sheffield United or Brighton and Hove Albion this summer but turned down the Premier League duo to stay in Belgium with KRC Genk, while speaking to TV2.
A classy central midfielder who helped Genk win the Jupiler League title last season, Berge is one of the most exciting young talents in a relative golden generation of Norwegian footballers, including Martin Odegaard, Josh King, Frederik Midtjso and Champions League hat-trick hero Erling Braut Haaland.
But the 21-year-old surprisingly turned down the chance to make the next step in his career when Sheffield United and Brighton showed interest over the summer months, preferring instead to stay at a Genk side who will soon face Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League group stage.
“I can't go into more detail about things but of course it was interesting,” said the 6ft 5ins playmaker when asked about a potential move to Bramall Lane or The Amex. “I could have gone this summer, that's not to hide. But I felt it was best to stay.”

“I am only 21 years old and the playing time and the position I have at Genk I consider very good. Swapping (clubs) it is not something you just do.”
Berge’s comments back up claims from HLN two months ago. They stated that Sheffield United made a club record £22.5 million but the former Valarenga ace snubbed a potential move to the Steel City.
He is apparently aiming higher than a Premier League newcomer who are likely to spend the season fighting relegation.
