Jetro Willems has jokingly challenged Liverpool's Van Dijk to score the type of goal the Newcastle man scored at Anfield over the weekend.
Despite Liverpool winning the Premier League contest 3-1, it was Steve Bruce's side who took the lead early on in the game when Willems struck a sweet shot from outside the area.
That joy was short-lived for the Newcastle supporters because Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino became a thorn in their side and ensured the three points were in the bag for the table-toppers.
Nonetheless, Willems sent this message to Van Dijk from his personal Instagram account, as he stated that he could be the 'best defender' or even the 'best player' in the world, at this moment in time.

Me: You may be the best defender, or even, the best player in the world. But I challenge you to score a goal like that on Anfield. Virgil: ... Well, you see the look on his face and his body language Just joking around, it was good facing you on tbe pitch bro @virgilvandijk
Despite his team dropping points, it is a moment that Willems will no doubt remember because of the type of goal he scored and the team he scored it against.
As for Van Dijk, he will be concentrating on Champions League matters on Tuesday night, with Liverpool beginning their defence against Napoli.
Van Dijk, who moved to Anfield from Southampton for £75 million nearly two years ago [BBC Sport], has been a key member of this Liverpool set-up.
If they are to reach the finals of the Champions League for a third year running then the Dutchman will have to stay fit because he is crucial in their chances of winning yet another European trophy.
