West Ham United defender Arthur Masuaku has harshly sent off in Monday night's clash as Aston Villa.

Masuaku received a second yellow card in the 66th minute, for a minor coming together with Anwar El Ghazi.

Referee Mike Dean showed no hesitation, he immediately brandished a yellow card followed by a red.

Masuaku and West Ham's players were left stunned by the dismissal, and it was one which former West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon branded as ridiculous.

To West Ham's credit, they rallied well with 10 men, and actually seemed to play better than they did before Masuaku was dismissed.

The game had a frenetic, fast paced end, but ended 0-0 and on balance it was a fair result.

West Ham could even have won it late on, had Ryan Fredericks been awarded a late penalty.

Masuaku will now be suspended for Sunday's fixture against Manchester United.
