Moussa Djenepo has made a huge impact at Southampton with fellow summer signing Che Adams tipping the winger to be a ‘massive player’ for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side as they look to secure their Premier League status for another season, as reported by the Daily Echo.
Former Birmingham City talisman Adams has endured a frustrating start to life on the South Coast. He is yet to open his account for The Saints and came close twice without getting off the mark away at Sheffield United on Saturday.
And Adams was left indebted to Djenepo when the Mali international scored the only goal of the game at Bramall Lane in the second half, slaloming past defenders with ease before slotting into the far corner.
That was Djenepo’s second goal for Southampton; his first that long-range rocket against Brighton before the international break.
So no wonder Adams is expecting bid things for a forward who is already looking a snip at £14 million.
“He does it in training all the time. From when he stepped in the door, you could see he has the ability and that’s why the club signed him,” said Adams.
“It’s important if you’re an attacking player, you need to be able to cause opposing teams problems and he’s shown that.
“I think he will be a massive player for us, he’s an attacking threat, and that’s what we need. He will help us in the league.”
Djenepo is perhaps the most exciting forward to wear the red and white stripes since Sadio Mane’s time at St Mary’s with the 21-year-old adding not only speed but match-winning quality to a Southampton attack who have looked toothless for far too long.
