Liverpool fans have hit back at Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne’s comments about the title race, as quoted in the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool have established a five point lead over City at this early stage, after Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten 3-2 by Norwich City in a shock result this weekend.

The Reds may well have an advantage in the title race now, but De Bruyne has urged for calm and insisted that Jurgen Klopp’s side’s task is still diffciult.

“Last season we were seven points behind – it happens,” he said.

"Of course we want to win every game but it is difficult. You have to respect the other team and when they do well. They do well and that is it.

"It will be tough, the next seven months, like last year.

"We lost four games out of 38 last season and that is a good record. We can still win this season with the same points at the end of this season.”

On the face of it De Bruyne's comments do not appear to be particularly controversial.

But Liverpool fans do not appear to be scared of City’s threat though, with confidence rising at Anfield.

Liverpool have taken maximum points from their first five games this season, but even they survived a slight scare at the weekend.

The Reds fell behind against Newcastle United, but came back to claim a 3-1 victory.

Liverpool and City are both in action in midweek this week, as they start up their Champions League campaigns.
