Report: Everton, Southampton and Sunderland want to sign James Scott

Motherwell's James Scott could join Premier League clubs Everton, Southampton Bournemouth or Sheffield United, with interest also credited to Barnsley and Bristol City.

Premier League trio Southampton, Everton and Sheffield United are all competing to sign the latest fresh-faced starlet to rise through the ranks at Motherwell, forward James Scott, according to TEAMtalk.

A matter of weeks after Stephen Robinson’s side somehow managed to hang onto David Turnbull, thanks largely to a failed medical at Celtic, The Well are facing up to losing another of their teenage stars.

Standing at 6ft 2ins and versatile enough to play anywhere across the attack, Scott has certainly caught the eye in recent months. The 19-year-old has already scored three goals this season and made his debut for Scotland’s U21s in August.


Now, TEAMtalk claims that he could be on his way to England with top-flight clubs Everton, Southampton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth all interested.

Barnsley, Bristol City and Sunderland are all potential destinations too for another youngster who is rated very highly at Firhill.

It remains to be seen where he ends up but Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has a fine track record when it comes to helping youngsters realise their potential, see Callum Wilson, Josh King and Lewis Cook.

Everton’s sporting director Marcel Brands, meanwhile, has made a career out of unearthing rough diamonds while Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhuttl insists that he wants young, hungry and exciting talents to form the backbone of his team at St Mary’s.
