Robby McCrorie is starring at Queen of the South but can he come Rangers’ number one goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership?

It is not often that a group of fans put their allegiances aside to pay tribute to one member of the opposition team.

But the Greenock Morton supporters were gracious in defeat on Saturday after Robby McCrorie produced an outstanding performance between the sticks for Queen of the South.

The on-loan Rangers goalkeeper made five fine saves as the Doonhamers secured a 1-0 win that they barely deserved, almost singlehandedly securing a three-point haul for the Championship outfit.

The Scotland U21 international is very highly rated at Ibrox and, after more displays like this, it will soon be impossible for Steven Gerrard to ignore a home-grown goalkeeper who, whisper it, might just be Allan McGregor’s long-term replacement on the blue half of Glasgow.

McCrorie kept six clean sheets during a loan spell at Morton last season and he came back to haunt his former club at Palmerston Park, producing a Man of the Match display as Queen of the South moved up to seventh in the Championship table.

And even the Morton fans agree that one man made the difference.
