Chris Sutton has compared Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell to Deco after the youngster helped inspire that thrilling 3-2 triumph over Manchester City at Carrow Road, while speaking to the Mail.

It takes a lot to put a smile on Sutton’s face but even the Mr Miserable of punditry couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear after Daniel Farke’s Canaries pulled off one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history on Saturday night.

Pep Guardiola’s champions were left stunned in East Anglia, losing to a Norwich side who not only defended heroically but even outplayed the likes of David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne with Emi Buendia and Cantwell showing that they belong at the top level.

The latter, a Norwich-born playmaker who has risen through the ranks at Carrow Road, even scored The Canaries’ second goal in the first half, tapping home after a brilliant team move carved City’s defence apart.

That was the icing on a sublime performance which has catapulted 21-year-old Cantwell into the mainstream. And Sutton is obviously a big fan of a player he has compared to a former Chelsea, Barcelona and Portugal superstar.

“Teemu Pukki continued his fine form. Todd Cantwell — or ‘the Dereham Deco’ as I like to call him — looked threatening in attack while Emi Buendia put in a complete performance in midfield. It was a tremendous team effort,” Sutton said.

Cantwell obviously has a long way to go before he can match the achievements of Deco, who won domestic titles with Porto, Barcelona and Chelsea, plus the 2004 Champions League under Jose Mourinho.

But there appears to be no limits to his potential.
