Liverpool beat Bruce’s Newcastle side 3-1 at the weekend, but they were given a slight scare.
Newcastle took the lead at Anfield, which forced Liverpool to show their powers of recovery.
Robertson was grateful that his side found his way back into the match fairly quickly after going behind, as he knows how well organised Bruce’s teams can be.
Robertson worked with Bruce at Hull City earlier in their respective careers.
And the Scottish international still rates Bruce highly as a manager. He said: “Everyone reacted really well and luckily we got back on level terms because the longer the game goes, Steve Bruce’s game plan comes in; I’ve been a part of it and I know how good they are at it. Luckily we got on level terms quite quickly.”
Robertson has gone from strength to strength after having the defensive principles drilled into him by Bruce, and is now said to be worth £78 million by the CIES Football Observatory.
Bruce, meanwhile, still has his doubters at Newcastle, after taking over from Rafael Benitez.
The Magpies have had some impressive moments this season, but they have only collected four points from their first five matches and there are fears that they could be set for a season of struggle.
