You may recognise a number of Top Boy's locations, so let's take a look at some...
Who'd have thought that Drake would be the one to help bring Top Boy back to screens.
One could easily argue a case that Top Boy is one of the most quintessential British crime-drama of the 2010s; honestly, it would be a really hard to statement to disagree with, as viewers were quickly intrigued by the world it conjured. It was created by Ronan Bennett and the first series arrived on Channel 4 back in 2011.
Each of the four episodes were directed by the expertly talented Yann Demange, who helmed Dead Set and the criminally underrated 2014 film '71 starring Jack O'Connell. In just a few episodes, the show announced itself as an incredibly important one, which earned it a renewal. A second season finally arrived in the summer of 2013, taking fans back to the fictional housing estate in Hackney, East London - Summerhouse.
Although audiences were more than happy to venture back there after another riveting four episodes, Channel 4 cut the cord, which was pretty annoying considering ideas for another season had already been pitched. One of the show's biggest fans happened to be Drake, who turned a lot of people onto it. So passionate about it, he helped resurrect it, with the series now returning but on Netflix, with Ronan still scripting and the cast reprising their roles.

Top Boy season 3 filming locations
Season 3 of Top Boy landed on Netflix on Friday, September 13th 2019.
The series was always intent on exploring crime, dangers and locations, and of course, the new crop of episodes aren't ready to divert away from this; it's clear Drake was sure not to disrupt the look and feel of it all.
So, where was it filmed? As we've already mentioned Summerhouse isn't a real housing estate, but that doesn't mean there's no influence. As highlighted by CapitalXtra, Summerhouse is based on the De Beauvoir estate. De Beauvoir Town is a district in East London, located in the Borough of Hackney.
They say a lot of the series footage was shot in and around Hackney, including Haggerston and Dalston.
The same source notes that the crew were spotted filming a chase sequence on London streets way back in January 2018. Top Boy boasts a distinctively London setting, and fans in the past have recognised the likes of Whipps Cross Hospital, Elephant and Castle and beyond.
For the scenes on the estate, it looks like much of it was filmed in Cubitt Town, Isle Of Dogs, London.

Fans will notice that this season feels far more epic and ambitious than previous, which reflects in the runtime - we'll get to that later!
Nevertheless, it's retained a gritty and engaging approach to the material, making for some seriously compelling scenes. Locations are integral in bringing audiences into this world, but sometimes that means moving around to find the right spots.
The earlier source also identifies that the Top Boy crew were seen in the seaside town of Margate, Kent some time ago. Reportedly, filming took place in such locations as a Polish supermarket, Nazsa Biedronka and more.
The Kent Film Office sheds further light on this, highlighting that filming locations include, Margate Beach and its surrounding streets (Athelstan Road, Northdown Road, Newgate Gap, Winter Gardens). Then, there are the likes of the Rose of England pub in Ramsgate, the station and more; some filing also took place in Gravesend.

How many episodes?
There are ten episodes in total across Top Boy season 3.
That's a pretty big deal when acknowledging that seasons 1 and 2 only had four episodes each. It's been over half a decade since fans have seen new episodes, so it's cool that the team have rewarded audiences' patience by giving them over double the usual episodes.
We hope you enjoy it!
