The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has suggested that plans are already underway to strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.
Bruce told The Chronicle: "We've got a nucleus of a very good squad. Rather than five or six, maybe it's important to go for one or two.
“I think that's the way forward. We've got good players here. If we can just keep adding to the quality of them, then I think that's the way forward."
Encouraging for Newcastle United fans
It must be very encouraging for Newcastle fans to see that plans are taking place for the January transfer window.
It shows just how much planning is going in to making this season a success, and just how much work is being put into getting the players that Bruce wants.
Back in action
Newcastle will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the Premier League.
The Magpies are 14th in the league table at the moment with four points from as many matches, just a point above the relegation zone.
