New Rangers addition could feature at Ibrox this weekend.
Kent clinched his long awaited return to Rangers on transfer deadline day, signing a permanent deal.
Rangers face Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday at 3pm, looking to bounce back from their defeat to Celtic.
Kent can give the crowd a lift, but Gerrard has warned supporters to temper their expectations.
Kent has not played any competitive football since his spell at Rangers last season.
Gerrard said: "He is available for the weekend, and what I will say, is we have to be careful.
"He hasn’t been doing regular sessions and hasn’t had many game minutes, so I think we all have to appreciate where he is at from a physical point of view but he is available for selection which is great news."
Kent's arrival is just what is needed to shake Rangers' options up, and while Gerrard talks about being patient with him, they might need him.
Rangers' Europa League campaign begins next week and having Kent available would be a big asset for them.
Getting him some game time beforehand is clearly in Rangers' interests, and it is possible he could come off the bench on Saturday.
