Some fans are left awaiting a release date whereas most are lamenting the fact Castlevania Grimoire of Souls is a mobile game.
The Tokyo Game Show 2019 has been a fantastic event thanks to its in-depth showing of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, but the former Konami prisoner's captures have disappointed most gamers once again by showing a mobile game called Castlevania Grimoire of Souls without a release date.
Castlevania is one of the most renowned franchises in gaming history, which makes it all the more annoying that its rebirth after five years since Lords Of Shadow 2 comes as a mobile game.
Granted, the idea of Castlevania on mobile isn't all that horrible in theory, but the announcement is understandably provocative when it's the first game in a long time. And there's no ignoring the fact that fans would much rather have a product of substance on consoles.

What is Castlevania Grimoire of Souls?
Castlevania Grimoire of Souls is a mobile video game that takes the series back to its side-scrolling roots. There's no release date for it as of yet, but we know that it'll boast a single-player campaign with a multiplayer mode.
Per the game's official website, it's said to depict a time many years after the defeat of Count Dracula. Humanity has lived in an age of peaceful prosperity until an individual named Genya Arikado receives a mysterious letter warning that he is needed to save the world from being consumed by darkness following the rise of the Grimoires.
During the game's narrative you will meet many iconic characters from the series' lore, and you will also get to play as them. These characters include:
As for multiplayer, the mode is said to be Bounty Hunt. Here you and four other players will fight and defeat an endless amount of enemies to see who can rank the highest score before time runs out.
The game looks incredibly beautiful with its retro visuals and nostalgic gameplay, but a lot of fans are disappointed thanks to it being a mobile experience.
"Give us a proper Castlevania video game!"
Konami published a trailer for Castlevania Grimoire of Souls on YouTube yesterday and - as of writing - it has more than 50% of dislikes.
This is because fans of the series want a proper Castlevania game on consoles rather than a mobile experience.
This sentiment is echoed on Twitter where people have expressed their frustration by suggesting that they will avoid the game and instead support titles such as Blasphemous.
I've never so quickly been let down and actually release a "Noooo" before watching the new #castlevania trailer and seeing that phone cross the screen, I really thought Grimoire of Souls was going to be a new proper game! pic.twitter.com/yD3FO8aLwz— The Strange Rock (@TheStrangeRock1) September 12, 2019
While the majority of fans are naturally disappointed, there are a few who are enticed enough to be excited.
Opinion: Castlevania Grimoire of Soul actually looks decent, I don't mind it's a Mobile game like Fire Emblem Heroes or Mario Kart Tour. It's great to see new Castlevania games.— Daily Castlevania Music (@Musicastlevania) September 13, 2019
And uh, if they ever make another Console game, I want a Classicvania style please
It's easy to understand why fans are so annoyed with the announcement as Castlevania is a series that deserves so much better than Konami's fixation with mobile phones and pachinko machines.

Aside from lamenting the current status of Castlevania, this news should also have people worried about the Silent Hill series' trademark having been renewed.
