The Saints are reportedly keeping an eye on the 18-year-old Belgian playmaker, whose superb goal at the U21 Euros was shown off by Belgian Football's Twitter feed.
The 18-year-old spent time at Kruibeke and Waasland-Beveren as a youth before joining Anderlecht and coming through the ranks, making his debut in November last year (Transfermarkt).
Despite having turned 18 just two months ago, Verschaeren has already made 28 first-team appearances for the Belgian giants, chipping in with two goals and four assists, and has risen quickly through the national team ranks too, making his senior Belgium debut this month (Transfermarkt).
Verschaeren featured in Belgium's Under-21s squad at the 2019 European Championships in Italy and San Marino, and although the Red Devils had a tournament to forget, the playmaker did make history with an impressive goal against the Azzurrini:
The Calciomercato report claims that Verschaeren is "liked" by the Saints and, though it does not mention a potential fee, the player is valued at £13.5million by Transfermarkt, the valuation done in June this year.
This season, Verschaeren - contracted to Anderlecht until the summer of 2022 - has made six appearances for his club, all in the Jupiler League (Transfermarkt).
