Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Vedat Muriqi.
Tottenham Hotspur fans may not have known much about Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi a week ago, but they’ll have certainly heard of him by now.
His move from Caykur Rizespor to Fenerbahce this summer won’t have made many headlines in England, with few aware of his 17 goals and eight assists last season.
Even after two goals in three games to start his Fenerbahce career, Muriqi hasn’t really become a household name, but he’s suddenly on the radar.
Sabah reported earlier this week that Spurs sent a scout to watch him in action for Kosovo against Czech Republic last Saturday, and he scored in a 2-1 victory his country.
Muriqi then took on England on Tuesday night, and again impressed by picking up two assists and scoring a penalty in a 5-3 defeat at Southampton’s St. Mary’s Stadium.
The 25-year-old target man – standing at 6ft 4in tall with great strength and aerial ability – showed against England that he’s more than just a battering ram, as he produced an outstanding no-look cross for Valon Berisha’s second goal of the night.
Spurs need a target man after releasing Fernando Llorente, and with Muriqi seemingly on their radar, they may be interested to hear the latest comments from Fenerbahce teammate Max Kruse.
Kruse has told Aksam that he thinks Muriqi is similar to Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski, and believes Muriqi will be good enough to play for Bayern in a couple of years – so Spurs may well need to get in quickly if they want him.
“He is very ambitious, very willing, very hardworking,” said Kruse. “I compare him to Lewandowski. I’m telling him that. I think he will be at Bayern’s level in 2-3 seasons,” he added.
