Mignolet spent three years at Sunderland and was hugely popular at the Stadium of Light, before he went on to join Liverpool in a £9 million move (BBC Sport).
The Belgian keeper knows De Bock, and when the left-back realised Sunderland were interested in him he went to seek the advice of the former Liverpool man.
“Simon was really happy here, he liked it here but if you have the chance to go Liverpool like he did, you have to go. He was positive about living here with his family and the club,” De Bock said.
If De Bock can go on to have the same impact at Sunderland as Mignolet did then he will be a great signing.
The 26-year-old has joined the Black Cats on an initial loan, although the move from Leeds United could be made permanent at the end of the season.
De Bock is yet to make his Sunderland debut, but he is expected to have an important role to play for Jack Ross’s side as the season progresses.
The Leeds loanee should be in the squad tomorrow, when Sunderland take on Accrington Stanley.
