Charlie Nicholas has suggested to Sky Sports that West Ham United youngster Declan Rice makes a lot of mistakes.

The former Arsenal and Celtic forward has suggested that people get far too excited about Rice, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Nicholas told SkySports about Rice: “People are far too excited about Declan Rice, with lots of mistakes and clumsiness there, as is the predictability with West Ham.”

Young and learning

Rice is only 20 years of age, and at that age, not all players are finished articles, and the youngster is no different.

The youngster has established himself in the holding midfield role at West Ham, and he has also already earned five caps for England.

True, Rice - who is valued at €90 million (£80.7m) by the CIES Football Observatory - does make mistakes and there is room for improvement, but it is true for all 20-year-olds.

There is no doubt that Rice has a lot of talent, and he could be a star of the global game in the coming years.

According to WhoScored, the youngster has made four appearances in the Premier League for West Ham so far this season, and played 34 times in the league during the 2018-19 campaign, scoring two goals in the process.
