According to Calcio Mercato, Chelsea will make a move for Youcef Atal in the January transfer window if their ban is lifted, and that should put Tottenham Hotspur on red alert.

Chelsea are said to be keen to bring in Atal, as they feel he could enhance their options at right-back, but Tottenham cannot let that happen.

Spurs have already been linked with Nice full-back Atal in the Telegraph, but a move for him in the summer didn’t materialise.

Tottenham may have been wanting to take a look at their other options at right-back, but the start to the season shows that they have an issue there.

Kyle Walker-Peters has performed credibly, but he is still young and it is arguable whether he is yet an elite level full-back.

Juan Foyth has also been out injured, which hasn’t helped Spurs in their bid to replace Kieran Trippier, but even he is massively inexperienced in the position.

Atal should now be right at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, as they look to bring in further additions.

The Algerian international looks like the perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and his arrival would solve Tottenham’s right-back problem once and for all.

Atal is absolutely brilliant going forward, and ranks among the most prolific dribblers in Europe, but he also has proven to be a robust defender.

Atal scored six goals last term, and the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son would thrive off the quality of delivery that they would receive from the 23-year-old.

Spurs should be doing everything that they can to bring Atal in during the January transfer window.

And Pochettino’s side simply cannot let the full-back move to Chelsea unopposed, as watching their perfect addition sign for another London club would really sting.
