Liverpool announced on Monday that 18-year-old prospect Paul Glatzel has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract.

The striker is one of the brightest prospects coming through at Anfield right now.

Jurgen Klopp included him in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers earlier this summer.

Unfortunately for the player the appearance resulted in him injuring his knee, which will keep him out of action for quite a while, possibly all season.

Clearly though the Reds still has faith he can reach an elite level, ensuring that he is at the club for the foreseeable future.

Glatzel was of course delighted with it all, telling the club's official website: "It's a great feeling and it shows that the club has got faith in me. Now I can just focus on my rehab and get back on the pitch.

"I've been at the club for so long and I just want to keep going and see where it takes me. Hopefully I can crack on now and keep going. The contract makes it easier."

The forward has scored 23 goals in 38 appearances for Liverpool's youth sides (Transfermarkt), so clearly knows his way to finding the back of the net.

Liverpool celebrated the news on Twitter with an official video showing off some of his excellent finishes, which has got supporters rather excited about his future.

The hope will be he can now fully recover without any issues to his development and push towards being included more with the first-team.

Klopp is blessed with an elite attack, but has shown he isn't afraid to play young players if they are good enough.

Could Glatzel be the next homegrown hero at Anfield?

These fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Wednesday...
