Newcastle United managed to bring Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park this summer.

Slaven Bilic’s words about Newcastle United’s Andy Carroll in the Birmingham Mail should excite the St. James’ Park crowd, as the target-man plans to make a return.

Bilic worked with Carroll at West Ham earlier in their careers, and knows the England international striker well.

Carroll is set to make his second debut for Newcastle in the coming weeks, as he edges closer to returning from injury.

And BIlic thinks that the powerful forward can be very difficult to stop from set pieces.

“Every team is practicing. But you can only practice set-pieces to a point – defending them has to come from inside. First of all it’s about desire,” Bilic said.

“But it’s also about size as well. If you are coming up against Andy Carroll or Duncan Ferguson, you can have all the desire you want but they are good in the air.

“It is difficult to stop them.”

Newcastle fans, of course, will be familiar with Carroll’s aerial strength as his best spell of his career came when he was on Tyneside as a youngster.

The hope is that Carroll can still get back to the top of his game, despite injuries plaguing his career.

If the powerhouse can get back to full fitness for Newcastle then he should increase Steve Bruce’s side’s attacking threat considerably.

As Bilic says, Carroll can be very difficult to stop when given quality service.

And with Newcastle still looking for a prolific scorer, the hope is that Carroll could help increase the Magpies’ attacking threat.
