Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has still not made his first Premier League start for Dean Smith’s side.

Dean Smith has told Aston Villa’s official Youtube channel that Marvelous Nakamba has looked really good in training and is now pushing for his first Premier League start.

Villa brought in Marvelous from Club Brugge over the summer, and he has been held back by Smith so far.

The Zimbabwean midfielder did fairly well on debut against Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup.

And Smith has now suggested that Marvelous is ready to start in the league, after spending the entire international break with Villa.

“[Marvelous Nakamba] hasn’t missed a training session and has looked really good,” Smith said.

“He’s one who’s really pushing the likes of Douglas Luiz in the team.”

Even despite Smith’s comments, it seems likely that Douglas Luiz will retain his starting place for the time being.

Luis has had a mixed start at Villa, but has shown glimpses of real quality.

The claret and blues have picked up just three points from their first four matches back in the top flight, and will know that they need to improve this total sooner rather than later.

Villa return to action on Monday evening, when they take on West Ham United.
