Championship outfit Leeds United farmed Conor Shaughnessy out on loan to League Two Mansfield Town last week.

Leeds United loanee Conor Shaughnessy helped Mansfield Town claim a 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe United on Saturday – and he has now been named Man of the Match by the clearly impressed Stags fans.

There are worse ways to make an impact at your new club.

Shaughnessy was farmed out to League Two outfit Mansfield on the final day of the transfer window last week after falling out of favour at Championship title-chasers Leeds. And, just one game into his time at Field Mill, the 23-year-old already has a Man of the Match award to decorate his mantelpiece.

A centre-half by trade, Shaughnessy looked a cut above in the heart of midfield as John Dempster’s side cruised to a win against a horribly out of sorts Scunthorpe side who have picked up one point from a possible 21 at the start of the 2019/20 season.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international even helped set up the second goal, scored by the electric Danny Rose, as pre-season promotion favourites Mansfield moved into the top half.

The test for Shaughnessy now is to nail down a place in central midfield and fire Mansfield, one of the richest and most ambitious clubs in the fourth tier, into title contention. Maybe then he will catch Leeds’ eye and breathe fresh life into his Elland Road career.
