Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn came up against Kevin de Bruyne as Scotland were thrashed by Belgium on Monday night.

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has stated on Instagram that Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is the ‘best midfielder in the world’.

On Monday night, De Bruyne provided three assists and scored one goal as Belgium outclassed helpless Scotland – Villa’s John McGinn came onto the pitch as a late substitute.

Nonetheless, it was a masterclass performance from the Manchester City player, who topped off the night by placing his first-time shot into the bottom corner.

Whilst watching the game unfold, Grealish sent this message from his personal Instagram account about De Bruyne:

For large parts of last season, De Bruyne was injured as he missed City winning the domestic treble and pipping Liverpool to the Premier League title in dramatic fashion.

Now that he is fit and at his best, De Bruyne is tearing opposition defences apart, as he will be looking to do the same to Villa when they take on Manchester City next month.

Dean Smith’s side will travel to the Etihad Stadium at the end of October, as Grealish will come up against and see in first person what it’s like playing against ‘the best midfielder in the world’.

Aside from Liverpool, Pep Guardiola’s side are clear favourites against whichever team they come up against and that will be the same for when Villa visit.

At this moment in time, the Midlands outfit have started off the season in an indifferent manner and they will be hoping they will be on a positive run by the time they come up against the Premier League champions.
