Wales fans have criticised Aston Villa defender Neil Taylor for his performance against Azerbaijan on Friday.
Taylor was in action for Wales in their European Championship Qualifying Group E game against Azerbaijan.
The 30-year-old left-back started the match and played for 80 minutes, as Ryan Giggs’s side won 2-1.
The former Swansea City star was a surprise selection ahead of Ben Davies, and his performance was far from impressive.
Taylor should have done better for the goal that Azerbaijan scored, and he had a disappointing game overall.
Wales fans were not impressed with the display of Taylor against Azerbaijan, and have criticised him on Twitter.
Below are some of the best comments:
Ryan Giggs has done wonders with Wales. Playing Taylor instead of Davies deserves the sack whatever the final result is.— Mark Wood (@MarkWood17) September 6, 2019
Wales' left side of defence absolutely shocking tonight. Neil Taylor and Ben Davies both had an equally bad game. Wilson and Lawrence also poor. Jonny Williams' performance a plus.— Gavin Lewis (@gavlew) September 6, 2019
Surely Giggs could see we needed a target man so why leave it so late to bring Vokes on ? Williams did well as a sub and even if only 30% fit Davies has to start before Taylor ! #Wales— Simon Williams (@sw37ans) September 6, 2019
Thought Taylor+Wilson were terrible tonight tbh, Hennessey not great, Rodon, Roberts, Mepham were very good, Allen a little out of sorts, Ampadu, Bale average, James decent, Lawrence pointless tbh. Joniesta great when he came on as was Ben. Passing worst ive seen 4while.— 'The Outlaw' Josey Wales (@jwales37) September 6, 2019
Neil Taylor is finished at international level. Diolch, but no more now.— Ceri Collins (@CeriCollins) September 7, 2019
Wayne Hennessy can’t get in the Crystal Palace team so shouldn’t be anywhere near Wales’ 11.
Giggs had zero ideas to fix the problem.
Azerbaijan scored more goals than we did.
Without Bale we are !
Summary of wales last night, backline minus Taylor was great, Hennessy needs to play more, Allen and Ampadu were great, attack isn’t clicking and we’re really missing a focal point (striker) Jonny Williams is a super sub and GIGGS OUT #Wales #EuropeanQualifiers—Swans and Football Stuff (@SwansandStuff) September 7, 2019
If I see Neil Taylor anywhere near a competitive Wales squad again after last night I’ll lose all hope in humanity.— Mike (@mike_jones96) September 7, 2019
Taylor has been on the books of Villa since January 2017 when he joined from Swansea City.
The left-back has been a regular for the Villans, So far this season, the Wales international has made four appearances in the Premier League, while in 2018-19, he made 31 starts in the Championship and in 2017-18 he made 27 starts in the second tier of English football, according to WhoScored.
