Northern Ireland fans have praised the performance of Leeds United youngster Alfie McCalmont after he came on for his debut last night.

Northern Ireland won 1-0 against Luxembourg yesterday, with the Leeds academy graduate being handed 30 minutes of action.


There are high hopes at Leeds about McCalmont’s future, as he is now on the verge of their first-team.

And Northern Ireland fans were certainly impressed by the 19-year-old midfielder’s contribution.

Northern Ireland actually weren’t at their best at Windsor Park last night, but they did pick up a narrow victory in the friendly.

Leeds will be encouraged to see McCalmont now making an impression on the international stage, as he is starting to break through at Elland Road.

McCalmont has made two appearances for Leeds in the EFL Cup this term, although he is still waiting for his first opportunity in the league.

Leeds are next in action after the international break when they take on Barnsley, and McCalmont will hope to be part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s match day squad.
