Eddie Nketiah has claimed to the Daily Mail that he went against Arsenal boss Unai Emery’s wishes to sign for Leeds United this summer.

Nketiah has joined Leeds on loan from Arsenal for the season, and he has immediately made a big impression at Elland Road.

The youngster has scored three goals for Marcelo Bielsa’s side already, despite not yet making a start in the Championship.

There is now huge excitement about the damage that Nketiah could do for Leeds over the season.

But the prospect’s move to Elland Road actually nearly didn’t take place.

Nketiah claims that Emery had wanted him to stay at Arsenal, but the rapid striker’s desire for first-team football meant that the Gunners eventually relented and sent him out on loan.

“The manager wanted me to stay so it's really confidence-boosting for me that he had me in his plans,” Nketiah said.

“I felt like it was a good step for me to come to Leeds. I hope it's a good year that can leave me in good stead going back to Arsenal to fight for a place.

“There were a lot of options, there were options for me to go to Germany but me, my family and the club decided Leeds was the best place.”

Nketiah will be hoping that Marcelo Bielsa sees him as a starter sooner rather than later, and he must be pushing to be included in Leeds' first choice line-up.

Bielsa has previously hinted that Leeds could try and fit Patrick Bamford and Nketiah into the same team, and that is a tantalising prospect for Whites fans.

Bamford and Nketiah look to be two of the most threatening players in the Championship and if Leeds can bring the best out of them they will could be an even more dangerous side to play against than they already are.

Leeds are next in action after the international break when they take on Barnsley.
