Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso hobbled off the pitch when playing for Argentina last night.
Argentina’s official Twitter account has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has injured his groin on international duty.
Tottenham new boy Lo Celso hobbled off the pitch for his national side after just 53 minutes, following what looked a terrible tackle on him from Chile’s Charles Aranguiz.
Argentina have not confirmed the severity of the injury yet, but they have suggested that the Spurs man has damaged his groin.
#SelecciónMayor Parte médico: Giovani Lo Celso sufrió un golpe en la región inguinal izquierda.— Selección Argentina (@Argentina) September 6, 2019
The tweet translates as: ‘Medical update: Giovani Lo Celso suffered a blow in the left inguinal [groin] region.’
Argentina went on to draw the game 0-0 with Chile, in what was a fairly drab affair.
Spurs will be desperately hoping that Lo Celso’s injury is a minor one, and that he will be able to shake it off quickly.
Mauricio Pochettino has already suggested that Lo Celso needs to improve his fitness levels before he earns a starting spot at Tottenham, so a period on the sidelines will not benefit him at all.
Lo Celso put in his most encouraging performance yet in a Tottenham shirt last weekend, after an impressive cameo in the North London derby.
Tottenham are next in action in just over a week’s time against Crystal Palace, but it remains to be seen whether Lo Celso will be available for that match now.
