Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has had a rapid rise in recent months.

Tyrone Mings made it clear that he would like ‘a few more clean sheets’ despite him starting off the new season in a brilliant fashion for Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old’s performances in a Villa shirt has resulted in him earning a first England call-up as he will be hoping to make his debut either against Bulgaria or Kosovo.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (03/09/2019 at 3:40 pm), Mings was told about his early-season stats, but he stated that he would have preferred more clean sheets to his and Villa’s name.

On his stats and Gareth Southgate’s comments about him and whether he takes pride in that: “I do, yes,” Mings told Sky Sports News. “I would have liked a few more clean sheets, to be a bit higher on those stats. Obviously that’s my job as a defender to clear the ball, head the ball and block it.

“So, I certainly take pride in myself on those lists in the Premier League because that’s ultimately where you want to test yourself. I don’t know whether it represents whether we have been under quite a lot of pressure because I have had to make that amount of clearances. Bjorn [Engels] next to me in the defence has been just as important.

“I think we are building something special down there. It just takes time to gel. And I have also felt comfortable enough at Aston Villa in order to make the transaction from Championship to Premier League with all the help that I have had down there.”

Dean Smith’s side have kept one clean sheet from four games this season and that came during their 2-0 win against Everton.

Over the weekend, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, but there’s no doubt that Villa will feel robbed because they had a late goal ruled out because Kevin Friend wrongly adjudged that Jack Grealish dived into the build-up to the goal.
