Doom 64 on Xbox One and PS4 would be "neat" says Bethesda

Doom 64 PS4 And Xbox One

Bethesda has responded to the clamouring for Doom 64 on Xbox One and PS4 following its Nintendo Switch reveal.

There were a slew of fantastic announcements and showcases at last night's Nintendo Direct, and one of them was definitely the rebirth of the badass Doom 64. As you'd expect from its reveal having been made at a Nintendo only event, a lot of envious PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers are hoping Bethesda will satisfy their want for nostalgic blood and destruction too.

Last night's Nintendo Direct was home to several reveals such as SNES Online subscription service games, as well as a free-to-start multiplayer rebirth for one of Nintendo's most famous mascots, Kirby.

While pretty much everyone had pencilled in predictions to see more of Doom Eternal on their Nintendo Direct Bingo cards, Doom 64 was a marvellous surprise no one foresaw.

Doom 64 Nintendo Switch release date

In addition to having released the original trilogy on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile phones to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary, Bethesda is now additionally launching Doom 64 on Nintendo Switch.

This surprising revelation was made at last night's Nintendo Direct, and it'll mark the instalment's first ever appearance on a Nintendo system since its debut on the N64 two decades ago.

We don't know too much about the Doom 64 rebirth at the moment other than the fact it'll receive a visual touch-up with higher resolution, and that it'll also include the original's 32 levels.

Aside from that, we also know that its release date for the Nintendo Switch is November 22.

Is Doom 64 coming to Xbox One and PS4?

Doom 64 is said to be a sequel to Doom 2 by lore, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers are hoping to relive its glory days.

Unfortunately, nothing is confirmed for Sony and Microsoft loyalists at the moment as Doom 64 has only been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch.

And, in response to all the clamouring from non Nintendo gamers, the official Doom Twitter account has simply said that it'd be "neat" to see it go multiplatform.

PC and PS4 ports seem likely as there were leaked classifications earlier in the year from PEGI, but nothing is confirmed as of writing. Hopefully we'll learn something new and more substantial in the near future.

Doom 64 launches on Nintendo Switch on November 22, meanwhile Doom Eternal will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch on the very same day.
