Craig Beattie has claimed that Ryan Kent did 'a lot better' than Celtic forward Odsonne Eduoard last season as he insisted that Rangers have not taken a gamble by signing the winger on a permanent basis.

Late on Monday evening, Rangers, who had just suffered a home defeat to Celtic, announced the signing of Kent from Liverpool, as they paid £7 million for his services, according to BBC Sport.

When Edouard first came to the club, he initially joined on-loan before Celtic splashed £9 million on his services last summer, as reported by Sky Sports.

But former striker Beattie was adamant that Kent didn't just perform better than Eduoard last season, he performed 'a lot better' than the Celtic man, comments which will no doubt stun the Parkhead faithful.

"It's definitely not a gamble [signing Kent for a high fee]," Beattie told Superscorecard, as posted on a fans personal Twitter account. "I'll draw an analogy to Brendan Rodgers bringing Eduoard on loan [last season] with the £9 million loan fee if he was happy with him.

"Kent did a lot better than Edouard did during his loan season. And I think that's the reason it's not a gamble. And I also think that was the reason they were able to push through the £7 million on the last day of the window."

Both players can prove their worth on the same stage again this season, as they will be hoping to guide their team to the Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic proved their worth over the weekend when they beat Rangers at Ibrox, with Eduoard putting in a strong performance and opening the scoring on the day.
