Celtic defender Christopher Jullien put in a brilliant performance in the recent Old-Firm derby.

Christopher Jullien has told the Daily Record that Celtic fans made it clear just how much the Old-Firm derby meant to them in the build-up to the game.

Celtic made the first big statement in the title race in Scotland this season last weekend, as they went to Ibrox and beat Rangers 2-0.

Jullien’s performance at centre-back in the contest was one of the main reasons why Neil Lennon’s side looked so comfortable in the match.

The Celtic summer signing absolutely dominated Rangers’ attacking players, and completely nullified their threat.

And Jullien admits that he was under no illusions about how important that getting the three points was.

Indeed, when Celtic fans were stopping him in the streets, he was having to remind them that they had an important European clash beforehand.

“I got a feel for what the game meant when I was out in the city,” Jullien said.

“In the week before the game a lot of people came to me when I was with my family and had a lot of talk about Sunday’s match.

“They kept talking about that match but I was saying ‘we have a European game [with AIK] before’.

“However, everyone was really focused on Sunday’s game and I understand it’s a big thing here.

“But I just treated the match mentally like any game knowing the atmosphere would be a little more crazy.”

Thankfully for Celtic they won both against AIK and Rangers last week, to hit back at some of their critics.

The Bhoys had faced questions over whether they had regressed over the summer, but they have emphatically proven that they are still the team to beat in Scotland.

Celtic are next in action against Hamilton after the international break.
